Paranormal Activity 2 in October 2010

Paramount has hired Director Kevin Greutert (who was editor on the Saw movie series and directed Saw 6) to helm the movie sequel to Paranormal. And Screenwriter Michael R. Perry is in working on the script.

I'm a surprised that Oren Peli isn't directing Paranormal 2, but he's still involved, to a certain extent, as producer. And he seems confident that Director Kevin Greutert and Scriptwriter Michael Perry will be up to the task:

Oren Peli talks about Paranormal Activity 2

"These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed."
Oren Peli

The release date of Paranormal Activity has been set for October 22, 2010. So it's quite clear that they want to eclipse Lionsgate's Saw franchise, with their own Paranormal Activity franchise.

Hope to get some plot details of Paranormal Activity 2 soon!

Update: Kevin Greutert lost the job because Lionsgate finally didn't want to let him go, so it's Director Tod 'Kip' Williams who will actually direct Paranormal Activity 2.

Tod Williams previously helmed "The Door In The Floor", and as far as I know doesn't really any experience in supernatural horror movie... But let' hope he will manage to surprise (and scare) us!

Paranormal Activity 2 Movie To Be Unique

Actor Micah Sloat who played in the first film talked to Movieweb about the movie Paranormal Activity 2:

"I can't say anything specific about it, but I can definitely tell you that Paramount and the producers are very aware of what happened with Blair Witch 2, and how you can't really take something that's unique like Blair Witch or Paranormal and then follow it up with just a typical, Hollywood horror film. It just doesn't work. I think you can expect Paranormal Activity 2 to be just as unique, or at least have a quality of uniqueness, just like the original did, in its own way and I think it's really going to be a great movie."
Actor Micah Sloat

Considering how the first film ended, I doubt Micah Sloat will be back for the sequel of Paranormal Activity. But he must have overheard a few things about the sequel or even talked about it with Director Oren Peli... Anyway, glad to hear that Paramount will take time to deliver a movie as stunning as the first one!

Paranormal Activity 2 Movie - Paranormal Activity Sequel

Paramount must be singing the praises of Oren Peli by now because Oren Peli's low budget Paranormal activity movie was a huge success not only in the USA but also worldwide. The first movie was done with a shoestring budget of $15 000 only, then Paramount bought the rights for $300 000 and spent less than $10 million to promote the film. The theatrical release already brought in more than $100 million. So no wonder that the studios are now considering making a sequel to Paranormal Activity.

The execs at Paramount and its parent company Viacom have already hinted at the movie Paranormal Activity 2:

Paramount 's Brad Grey

"We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do Paranormal 2 and we're looking to see if that makes some sense."
Brad Grey, CEO of Paramount Pictures

"Given that a follow-up release wouldn't have the same element of surprise as Paranormal, it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel...Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach."
Philippe Dauman, CEO of Viacom

Whoever is hired for the job is going to have a hard job writing a script of Paranormal Activity 2 that respect and the spirit of the first one and still keep an element of surprise. Besides the way the first film ended makes things even harder.

What would you suggest for Paranormal Activity 2? Another random couple or family haunted by some evil spirit?
